About Art Therapy
What is Art Therapy?
Art therapy is an expressive therapy, integrating psychological and creative processes, while cultivating the imagination and self-exploration. The artmaking process reduces stress, anxiety and addresses underlying issues. Art stimulates the brain's neuroplasticity and the growth of new neural pathways, and aids in the healing process.
Art is a tool to express yourself and helps develop healthy coping skills to manage and sustain self-regulation. When immersed in the art process, you will find it calming and meditative—this is known as a state of flow. This state enhances one's awareness, physical, mental, emotional and spiritual well-being.
Who is Art Therapy for?
Art therapy is for all ages, it is not about being a skilled artist or learning to be the next Monet.
Art Therapy is for those trying to find their voice, externalize their story, alter their narrative and ground themselves in their beliefs and values. It is for those looking to work through difficult or traumatic experiences. For those seeking to deepen their self-understanding, tap into their higher wisdom and feel a sense of well-being. As well as for those trying to find ways to nurture the “self”—self-regulation, self-compassion, self-care and self-acceptance. It is for those wanting to access their playful side, their imagination, and their full-potential, through a creative, fun and liberating process.
